More TV- you’d think I haven’t got a life.. Which I don’t really, by the way, but I did go out on Wednesday night so I suppose I’m not a complete loner.. Anyway, I discovered a new show last night – House. Now I don’t know what season it was or anything, I have never watched it before, but it was quite good. I used to watch Chicago Hope a lot when I was younger, and ER in it’s glory days, but since then I’ve kind of gone off medical dramas. So it was nice to see one that I can start to watch, seeing as I clearly don’t watch enough TV as it is… I guess it could be that it’s not really that good and I just caught one of the better episodes, but I’ll keep watching for now. and it has Billy from neighbours in it, so it can’t be all that bad – even though he is nowhere near as good looking as I remembered him from Neighbours.

Also caught last night, One Tree Hill. What is going on there? Why would Hailey even imagine leaving Nathan for that Chris guy? OK, so Nathan isn’t all that, but Chris is just repulsive. Really. But I really like Lucas’ mum’s new boyfriend. He is hot… And what is up with Lucas moving in with Dan? I missed the first 10 minutes of last nights episode, so I didn’t really get that bit. I guess it is to buy his medicines but the whole thing is a little far fetched (like the rest of the show is so realistic…). I am liking that teacher guy who is seeing Karen’s mum. He’s hot. I wish he was my teacher. Not that I have any teachers.

That’s about it. My friday routine usually involves falling asleep on the sofa somewhere near the end Jonathan Ross – you’d think I was about 40 years old or something… I think I have entered middle age somewhat early.

I’m still watching Veronica Mars, and I’m liking it more and more. I have missed out a couple of episodes due to Living TV’s ridiculous scheduling (every day is just stupid..) But yesterday’s episode was quite enjoyable – and the teacher man seemed quite familiar.. I could be wrong, but is it the boss from 21 Jump street? I used to love that show when I was younger, I remember it used to be on just after I got home from school, and I have seen every episode several times, as my best friend taped all of them.. Unfortunately she has since taped over them and I haven’t seen it for years – and that is probably a good thing, it may have lost some of it’s magic as I have gotten older. Although I wouldn’t bet on it, I still love cheesy American teen dramas. And Johnny Depp is still hot. I did see a box set in HMV the other day, perhaps I should invest..

So Katie Holmes is having Tom Cruices baby – the “saving yourself for marriage”-thing went out of the window then. But then again, who can blame her… She is after all going out with Tom Cruice, and even though he is a bit of a freak, he is a hot freak. I certainly wouldn’t be saving myself for anything if I was going out with him (although, in my case, it might be a little late for the saving anyway).

Appearantly, because of the scientology-thing she is not allowed to have any painkillers during the birth, and she is not allowed to scream. Good luck, Katie. I speak from experience – I gave birth to my daughter without drugs (unless you count gas and air, but all that seemed to do was make me want to throw up) and being quiet was certainly not an option… In fact, I’d be surprised if anyone in the whole country failed to hear me. The silence thing is supposed to protect the baby from stress during the birth, but I reckon it’s a rule made up by scientology men who doesn’t want to be shouted at (i.e “you asshole, this is all your fault”) during the birth. Idiots. Scream your heart out, I say. It helps.

I haven’t been blogging for a while – I’ve had the flu, so I really didn’t feel like it. But now I feel better, so here I am. The good thing about being ill is that you have a great excuse to just lie on the sofa and watch crap TV. So you can safely say that I’ve had my share of crappy daytime TV, which seems to mainly be about paternity tests and lie detector tests, for a while…

Anyway, Living started showing Veronica Mars this week (great timing), and I had heard quite a bit about it so I got very excited. They are showing it every day (when is that ever a good idea, once a week is enough – I have other things to do), so I have seen the first three episodes so far. I’m not sure what I think. It’s not quite what I expected – for some reason I had imagined it to be a bit more snappy… A bit like Buffy. But it’s not. The strange thing is though, I don’t really mind that it’s not. I think I like it – and I’ll keep watcing. For now. But please, one episode per week is enough!! Or maybe two.

Anyway, I’m off to watch old episodes of Buffy. Season 6, when she is rolling in the haystack with Spike. I know a lot of people thought that was stupid, but it was the best bit of the whole show. We all love a bit of a bad boy…

(Unless I missed something and there already is such a list..)

The BBC reports that a student at Brunel University in West London has invented a solar powered handbag that lights up on the inside when you open it. Brilliant. No more standing outside the front door searching through your bag for 10 minutes to try and find your key in the dark. No more “where is my change/credit card/lipstick/buss pass. So yes, I want one as soon as possible. I only have one question: Will it work after a long night in a dark pub?

According to the BBC, the University of Glamorgan is to offer degrees in “alien-hunting�. The course combines astrobiology with popular culture (i.e movies about aliens). The University seems to want to increase the interest in science, but is seems a bit odd that they would base a scientific course on fiction. And what job would you get? I suppose you could get a job in movies or something, but I think it’s unlikely that you would get a call from NASA..

I’m not saying aliens don’t exist, but if they do, are they really going to be like ET?

As Opera has been free for a while, I have decided to give it a go. I have been thinking about trying it out for a while, but I was put off by the adverts – and I didn’t really want to pay for a browser. But now it’s free, so I downloaded a copy.

Obviously, being Norwegian I am patriotic by nature, so the fact that Opera is from Norway is going to be a plus in my book, and I’m very impressed so far. I love the voice thing, even though it takes up extra space on the computer. I haven’t got a microphone, so I haven’t tried out the voice commands yet, but I have had my computer read me the news while I was doing the ironing, which was quite cool… Also, getting it to read pages not in English produces hilarious results…

I’m not sure what I think about the layout yet, it seems a little messy, but it can be customised so I’m sure I’ll be able to tweak it a little. There’s loads of skins available as well, so you can really personalise it. I don’t think it has extensions like firefox, but I use both browsers, so it doesn’t really matter that much. And I find that having a lot of extensions in firefox tends to slow it down a lot anyway. 

One of the coolest things about Opera has to be sessions though. If you have a lot of pages you often visit, you can open them all in different tabs, and save it as a session. That way, you can go to open session next time you want those pages, and as if by magic – there they all are!

I haven’t tried the mail function yet (I’m too attached to my Outlook), so I can’t say anything about that, but it has a built in rss-feed reader, which is good. (Although I’m testing out searchfox rss for that as well). 

So all in all, I think Opera is great. It has all the must have functions like tabbed browsing, integrated search and pop-up blocker, and it has a few really cool extras like the voice thing, and sessions. The only problem so far has been the lack of capability with the fancy post-editor here at wordpress.com… So what are you waiting for? Download it. Now.
