Directory of blogs?

September 30, 2005

Leita at Help I need a Snappy Title is putting together a list of all the blogs on – see this post if you can help.  Maybe the mighty developers will be inspired to create a directory of blogs – for all us mere mortals who probably won’t reach the “top posts” or “top up and coming blog” lists in the dashboard.. (Unless I missed something and there already is such a list..)

Lucky Sevens

September 30, 2005
As it’s Friday (Finally), I thought I’d do one of these meme things. I don’t really know any other bloggers though, so I have shamelessy stolen this from
7 Things I Want To Do Before I Die:
Move back to Norway
Get a digital SLR and learn to take amazing photographs
Visit all the continents
Have another baby
Learn to drive
Do another degree, maybe a law-degree
Get a job that I really love, as opposed to a job that is merely OK
7 Things That I Cannot Do
Take amazing photographs
Be a domestic goddess (I hate housework)
Remember things that need to be remembered
Manage to set the video to record football/rugby/whatever for my boyfriend (however I seem to work fine when I record eastenders or similar programmes)
7 Things That Attract Me To The Opposite Sex
Caringness (is that a word?)

7 Things That I Say Most Often
Can I have some chocolate please
Oh no, I forgot
Have you seen my phone/keys/money/creditcard etc
If I cook, will you wash up?
That mess will still be there tomorrow, do you want to go somewhere (that domestic goddess thing again)
Sorry, I have to watch (insert rubbish program/soap/movie), so I can’t go anywhere

7 Celebrity Crushes
Andrew Lincoln
Sean Lock (maybe not so sexy, but hilariously funny)
Seth from the OC and Lucas from One Tree Hill
Ty from Extreme Makeovers Home Edition – Yes I know he is annoying, but I love the way they find an excuse to show at least one shot of him with his shirt off in each episode)
The Rock (Can you smell what the rock is cooking???)
Mini-Den from Eastenders
Johnny Depp when he is not sporting some ridiculous look from one of his movies. I loved 21 Jumpstreet when I was younger…
So there you go, there is my list. Probably not very exciting reading, but it is Friday so who cares..

Handbag Heaven?

September 29, 2005

handbagI want one. Now!!

The BBC reports that a student at Brunel University in West London has invented a solar powered handbag that lights up on the inside when you open it. Brilliant. No more standing outside the front door searching through your bag for 10 minutes to try and find your key in the dark. No more “where is my change/credit card/lipstick/buss pass. So yes, I want one as soon as possible. I only have one question: Will it work after a long night in a dark pub?

What do you want to be when you grow up? Alien-hunter?

September 29, 2005

“Students can take a degree in the search for alien life in what a Welsh university claims is the first of its kind in the UK”

According to the BBC, the University of Glamorgan is to offer degrees in “alien-hunting?. The course combines astrobiology with popular culture (i.e movies about aliens). The University seems to want to increase the interest in science, but is seems a bit odd that they would base a scientific course on fiction. And what job would you get? I suppose you could get a job in movies or something, but I think it’s unlikely that you would get a call from NASA..

I’m not saying aliens don’t exist, but if they do, are they really going to be like ET?

As Opera has been free for a while, I have decided to give it a go. I have been thinking about trying it out for a while, but I was put off by the adverts – and I didn’t really want to pay for a browser. But now it’s free, so I downloaded a copy.

Obviously, being Norwegian I am patriotic by nature, so the fact that Opera is from Norway is going to be a plus in my book, and I’m very impressed so far. I love the voice thing, even though it takes up extra space on the computer. I haven’t got a microphone, so I haven’t tried out the voice commands yet, but I have had my computer read me the news while I was doing the ironing, which was quite cool… Also, getting it to read pages not in English produces hilarious results…

I’m not sure what I think about the layout yet, it seems a little messy, but it can be customised so I’m sure I’ll be able to tweak it a little. There’s loads of skins available as well, so you can really personalise it. I don’t think it has extensions like firefox, but I use both browsers, so it doesn’t really matter that much. And I find that having a lot of extensions in firefox tends to slow it down a lot anyway.

One of the coolest things about Opera has to be sessions though. If you have a lot of pages you often visit, you can open them all in different tabs, and save it as a session. That way, you can go to open session next time you want those pages, and as if by magic – there they all are!

I haven’t tried the mail function yet (I’m too attached to my Outlook), so I can’t say anything about that, but it has a built in rss-feed reader, which is good. (Although I’m testing out searchfox rss for that as well).

So all in all, I think Opera is great. It has all the must have functions like tabbed browsing, integrated search and pop-up blocker, and it has a few really cool extras like the voice thing, and sessions. The only problem so far has been the lack of capability with the fancy post-editor here at… So what are you waiting for? Download it. Now. Golden ticket

So, I’ve been wondering what to do with my wordpress invite. Do you want it? If so, leave a comment and tell me how happy it would make you!

My wordpress blog!

September 26, 2005

Thanks to the wonderful, I got a “golden ticket?, and I have my own wordpress blog. How cool. I have been playing around with it a little, and I managed to add 500 links to the blogroll by mistake (don’t ask – it was an import link thingy), and I can’t delete them for some reason. Nevermind. I did however manage to set the category to only show 10 of them, so that’s good.

I’m really liking this wordpress stuff so far, although I would like to be able to edit the template a little. But maybe that will be added in the future?

Hello world!
